USA Youth Education in Shooting Sports (USAYESS) Celebrates Record-breaking Attendance at the 2024 National Junior Clay Target Championships

USAYESS  (USA Youth Education in Shooting Sports) had a wonderful time at the National Shooting Complex this last weekend in San Antonio, Texas. With over 1,320 youth athletes signed up for the events, USAYESS held its biggest National Junior Clay Target Championship in its 10th Anniversary. With four days of shooting, the youth athletes competed against one another in a 700-target competition encompassing many different games, including; Olympic Skeet and Trap, American Skeet and Trap, singles and doubles, Super Sporting Clays, and Sporting Clays.

With Saturday approaching the heat was on, both in competition and from the sun. Shooting off for awards were a handful of athletes with tying scores, going head to head for their prize. They had to shoot off for the higher score, tying again, and again, until the score was broken on their third attempt, leaving us with the highest-scoring athletes through all the events.

With the event’s final day quickly upon us, it was time to call the winners for each shooting event. Handing out over six hundred trophies for each age group, for both the boys and girls. The staff also had some additional awards, a belt buckle race, for a total overall score of the three main events, being; American Skeet Singles, American Trap Singles, and Sporting Clays. USAYESS also handed out the Mike Borg Memorial Scholarship to the student-athlete chosen

The Mike Borg Memorial Scholarship is presented to the athlete who qualified with at least 1 award a year, a 3.0 or higher GPA, and who competed in the state championship of their state, regional championship, and national championship. The athletes competing for the scholarship must also write a personal essay about themselves and their plans for the scholarship if won. As well as why the sport of shooting is important to the athlete. The deadline for the scholarship is the last day of the year, every year, to be reviewed and awarded at the next National Championship.
